"This is ridiculous!"
"No, this is art."
Or so were the reactions when I told about my idea for a new art project: a day walking around with a bag on his head and make videos and photos of it.
(subtitle: "I can not strange find it to put my head in a bag, after all, we fill the shopping, our brains into a plastic bag.")
What interested me in this action are the reactions of people who are suddenly facing a bag girl. Maybe it's just this reaction, which will play the biggest role of my project - after all, live performance art like this in some way.
When Joseph Beuys in the '70s with the action "I Like America and America likes me" a kind of residential community formed by a coyote, may average consumer may have shaken even his head, smiling, now include performance art, happenings and flash mobs somehow related to daily life, what the exhibition "The artist is present "(2010, MoMA) has proven:
The Serbian performance artist Maria Abramovic has been sitting for three months, seven hours per day on a chair and watch it leave.
at first this may sound obvious, but she attracts the people: Long lines and moving photographs of those who sat opposite her a moment to show the magic that came from the beautiful woman.
Perhaps it is the iron discipline that has drawn visitors in its spell, or the courage to be observable in some banal, and yet private spheres, such as sitting and thinking of thousands of spectators to have?
It may, however, is the other way around: it is the observer and the person that you have taken over on the empty chair, are those the build up to an unexpected intimacy of strangers. While they remain in a hectic world for a moment, a stranger looking directly into the eyes, they project a certain extent their hopes, fears and desires to Abramovic. The artist becomes a haven for unshed tears - a lightning rod for hidden anger.
For the viewers, the exhibition is now over, perhaps they are relieved, happy, or thoughtful of the chair stood up, but for Marina Abramovic now phase begins two of the unusual project: The work-up of the stories the Faces have told her.
As far as the emotions of others have become a part of it may, we do not know at the moment, probably they can at the moment do not even know themselves. What will happen if it hits one of their many viewers on the street? Will they talk to each other? Or to grant a kind of silent agreement just a few moments near by the other sees as suddenly as it has done before?
We should be excited.
